This experimental study aims to improve Formative assessment competencies by using a training program based on Standards for Teacher Competence in Educational Assessment and active learning strategies. It also investigates geography pre-service teachers’ competencies of formative assessment using two tests: test of cognitive competencies and test of skills competencies for formative assessment. Confirmatory   Cronbach's Alpha and Pearson Correlation were used to measure reliability for each test; Intrinsic Validity, Face Validity and Content Validity were used to measure validity for each test also t test was used to measure the results of each test. The results revealed that there is great effect of the training program on improving cognitive and skills competencies of formative assessment for geography pre service teachers.}, keywords = {competencies of formative assessment– geography pre-service teacher trainees,Standards for teacher competence in the educational assessment – active learning strategies}, url = {https://jrciet.journals.ekb.eg/article_24473.html}, eprint = {https://jrciet.journals.ekb.eg/article_24473_f386ffc07fa4f9c90b2fd96712ca55fb.pdf} } @article { author = {El-Garawany, Marwa}, title = {The Effect of Vlogging on Developing Tour Guidance Students' EFL Presentation Skills and Reflective Thinking}, journal = {Journal of Research in Curriculum Instruction and Educational Technology}, volume = {3}, number = {1}, pages = {43-79}, year = {2017}, publisher = {Association of Arab Educators (AAE), Egypt}, issn = {2356-9107}, eissn = {2537-0669}, doi = {10.21608/jrciet.2017.24479}, abstract = {T his study aimed at investigating the effect of vlogging on developing EFL presentation skills and reflective thinking among Tour Guidance Department students. Participants (N = 18) were fourth year students enrolled in the Tour Guidance Department, Faculty of Tourism and Hotels, University of Sadat City, during the first semester of  the 2016- 2017 academic year. Two instruments were used: an EFL oral presentation skills test and a reflective thinking questionnaire. Both instruments were pre-post administered. The experiment lasted for two months during which students were trained on vlogging, created a group vlog on Facebook, uploaded three 3-min. video-recorded presentations to the group vlog, accompanied by self- and peer reflection. Results revealed that the students achieved significant gains in EFL presentation skills and reflective thinking. Two classes of 104 freshmen taking business English course at Sadat Academy for Management Sciences in Egypt participated in the study; with 54 in the experimental group and 50 in the control group. The mixed-methods design was used to gather data from a grammar test, a vocabulary test, a questionnaire, and semi-structure interviews. Students in the experimental group were trained to use corpus and were taught through corpus-based activities for 11 weeks; whereas control group students were instructed using the course book only. The differences in students’ performance in grammar and vocabulary were examined between their pre- and post- tests. The results of the t-test indicated that there was a significant difference between the mean scores of the pre- and post-tests of grammar and vocabulary of the experimental group in favor of the posttests. Also, experimental groupstudents outperformed their counterparts in the control group in the mean scores of the grammar and vocabulary posttests. After the treatment, the attitudes of experimental group students toward corpus were explored through administering the questionnaire and interviews.  Data analysis of the questionnaire revealed that respondents were generally positive toward using corpus-based activities in learning both grammar and vocabulary. Analysis of the interviewees’ responses supported the findings of the questionnaire and offeredsome insights into using the corpus. Therefore, “since mathematics have both utilitarian and intrinsic value, all students have a right of access to its benefits which provide powerful numeric, spatial, temporal, symbolic, communicative and other conceptual tools, skills, knowledge, attitudes and values to analyze; make and justify critical decisions; and take transformative action” (Paulsen,2006, 44).  Students in modern societies, such as USA and UK, master general and basic information of mathematics with the enough level required for mathematical literate life.
